This is a short post to help anyone who may have been temporarily stumped trying to enable per-VM EVC for VMotion between clusters.

If you happen to be trying to enable per-VM EVC and see that the option is simply missing from the configuration tab of the VM like this:
What the?? It should be RIGHT THERE!! At least that’s what I was thinking. After some dinking around, I figured out that the template the VM was deployed from had the VM compatibility set too low for the feature. Right click the VM in Vcenter and upgrade compatibility to 14 or higher.
Once this is completed, the option is available to configured and the VM can be moved to the intended cluster!
